Nalchik is a resort city of federal significance in the south of Russia. The capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, in which about 240 thousand people live. On the three sides the city is surrounded by ridges of the northern slope of the Wooded Range.
The city is known for its nature and mineral springs, of which eighteen are located on the territory.
In this place, we developed a project for the reconstruction of facades and a concept for the development of the territory inside the building’s complex.
In the city of Nalchik, we developed the concept of the facades of three buildings and the improvement of the territory where they are located. In the past, the complex of buildings on Lenina street was a shopping center. Currently, it does not have a specific functional content, so it was necessary to create a building concept that could adapt to changing needs.
The first building that faces the main street is made in the classical style. Stucco molding with traditional Kabardian ornaments was used in the architectural decor. Such a decision revived the building, and it “entered into a dialogue with a person” through meanings.
There is a restaurant on the roof of the building, which continues the "tiered" theme of the entire facade.
In front of the main entrance there is an elongated canopy under which you can hide from the rain. It looks light, weightless due to the almost complete absence of supports, all the weight rests on the cable-stayed fastening of the visor to the facade.
The concept of facades is based on the logic of moving from the main building into the courtyard. The first building in the classical style stands out, but does not argue with other buildings on Lenin Avenue. The second building is partly hidden from the main street, so the facade has modern solutions with classical elements. The third building is completely hidden from the main street, so it is entirely made in the loft style.
In the courtyard there are places for recreation and green "islands" for business. Each island is equipped with different types of seating for guests under awnings, which can be adapted for summer cafes.
